Rosie O’Donnell’s adopted daughter, Chelsea, received a six-year probation sentence on March 31, 2025, in Wisconsin after pleading guilty to three felony charges. The ruling closes a months-long case that has drawn public attention and criticism of O’Donnell’s parenting.

Chelsea was arrested in November for the third time on charges tied to drugs and bail violations. She faced sentencing yesterday, after pleading guilty in February to felony bail jumping, possession of an illegal substance, and resisting or obstructing an officer. She appeared in court with her attorney, Brad Hansen.

According to court records, Chelsea’s two misdemeanor charges — possession of drug paraphernalia and narcotic drugs — were dismissed.

However, the court imposed strict probation terms, including absolute sobriety, no unauthorized substance use, no firearms, no contact with drug users or sellers, and mandatory completion of a high school diploma or GED. A full mental health evaluation is also required. If she fails to meet these conditions, Chelsea O’Donnell could face prison time.

Although the legal case seems to be over, the public conversation around it isn’t. On Instagram, one person wrote“Parenting fail, no surprise.” Another comment read“Not surprised seeing the upbringing.”

On Facebook, the reactions were equally harsh. One person stated“Poor girl needs help,” while another simply called the situation “pathetic.”
